This website is dedicated to Dr. Jose P. Rizal in honor of his 150th birthday commemoration on June 19, 2011.
Dr. Jose P. Rizal is the national hero of the Republic of the Philippines.
He was the first one to advocate non-violent disobedience and resistance to civil authorities in his campaign to achieve reforms in the Philippines.
To put into a different perspective, we can appreciate his advocacy and practice of non-violent disobedience and resistance when we recall to mind the People Power Revolution (also known as the EDSA Revolution and the Philippine Revolution of 1986) which was a popular non-violent revolution and prayerful mass street demonstrations in the Philippines. It is the first one ever recorded of its kind. The recent events that we had witnessed in Burma, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and other countries strengthens and validates well his prophetic ideals and principles that a country can achieve true independence and democracy only through the education of its people to prepare them to determine their own destiny.
It is therefore our hope that the information available in this website can serve as a starting point for not only to study the national hero but in knowing his life and works will serve as an inspiration to make one a better citizen not only of his country but of the world.
Students and researchers are specially encouraged to consider this website as a focal point for informational source as well as a place where we can all share and exchange knowledge and understanding of the meaning of Dr. Jose P. Rizal and his ideals.
